Volvo just introduce their new sterndrive with the dual prop facing forward. This looks similar to the IPS and will get probably the similar benefit in term of efficiency and reduce drag. With this position the water is not diverted by the drive body and because the exhaust does not run through the center of the propeller it is possible to get a more efficient propeller shape.
It has already been fitted to wake-board boat. I am looking forward to get the specifications. Maybe this will give idea to outboard engine maker?
